ITS TIME TO BREAK UP WITH SHAME. ⠀

A growing number of researchers and practitioners are examining shame and its role in a wide range of mental and public health issues including ⠀
self- esteem/concept issues⠀
depression⠀
addiction⠀
eating disorders⠀
bullying⠀
suicide⠀

The evidence clearly points to shame’s importance, and researchers now describe shame as “the master emotion of everyday life”. ⠀

So how do we break up with shame? ⠀

We start by talking about it. “The less we talk about shame, the more power it has over our lives,” Dr. Brown explains in her book Daring Greatly. “If we cultivate enough awareness about shame to name it and speak to it, we’ve basically cut it off at the knees.” ⠀

If this is something you struggle with, there are some great resources out there, professionals who can help you work though your shame and overcome it, and hopefully someone you trust that you can open up to about your feelings. I definitely recommending checking out works my Dr Brene Brown, who is an expert in shame research. ⠀
